Abu Ghraib Torture Photos

  • Ag15
The photos America doesn't want seen MORE photographs have been leaked of Iraqi citizens tortured by US soldiers at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison on the outskirts of Baghdad. Tonight the SBS Dateline program plans to broadcast about 60 previously unpublished photographs that the US Government has been fighting to keep secret in a court case with the American Civil Liberties Union. Although a US judge last year granted the union access to the photographs following a freedom-of-information request, the US Administration has appealed against the decision on the grounds their release would fuel anti-American sentiment. Some of the photos are similar to those published in 2004, others are different. They include photographs of six corpses, although the circumstances of their deaths are not clear. There are also pictures of what appear to be burns and wounds from shotgun pellets. The executive producer of Dateline, Mike Carey, said he was showing the pictures leaked to his program because it was important people understood what had happened at Abu Ghraib. Seven US guards were jailed following publication of the first batch of Abu Ghraib photographs in April 2004. Mr Carey said he could not explain why the photographs had not yet been published, as he thought it was likely that some journalists had them. "It think it's strange, maybe they think its more of the same."

Golden Bear to support Ron Paul at Austin City Limits

If Golden Bear makes it to the top five, they'll be able to promote Ron Paul at the Austin City Limits Music Festival.   Currently, they're at number 6, about 600 votes from being in the festival.

2 Ron Paul articles- Why the net loves Ron Paul

The AP weighs in with an unoriginal yet mostly fair article on the Paul campaign, but this one is far superior, and sports this inventive banner:
   ron_paul_banner.jpg

An excerpt: "Unlike technocrats who think that progress and order only arise when the energies of society are directed by centralized goals, libertarians know that order springs spontaneously out of the free choices of millions of individuals interacting upon a sound institutionalized foundation of contractual law and property rights. Technophiles also embrace spontaneous order, and the internet is home to some of the most visible example of this phenomenon." digg it

New York Times campaigns against Ron Paul

How else to interpret this weaselly story that tries to downplay Ron Paul's rock star reception at Google by quoting second quarter donations as if they were the response to Ron's successful appearance. Since second quarter donations closed two weeks before Ron's record-setting Google visit, and we know that one Google employee handed Ron a $2,300 maximum donation check at the Google Talk, what can one conclude but that the Times deliberately figured out how to prop up the Big Dems at Ron's expense?

Neocons <3 Hillary

Because it's all about the war.

Clinton's unwillingness to pander to her own party's base on Iraq has won her grudging respect from another unlikely source as well: William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard. On Aug. 7, he was quoted in the Washington Post saying that compared with Sen. Barack Obama, who is trying to energize the left to raise his falling poll numbers, she is looking quite presidential.

"Obama," Kristol said, "is becoming the antiwar candidate, and Hillary Clinton is becoming the responsible Democrat who could become commander in chief in a post-9/11 world."

Google Ron Paul

This is a bizarre result. Did we have an influence?

Ron Paul the "talk of Iowa"

A Ron Paul supporter who was involved in creating and placing the ad Lew posted  reports that the circulation director of the Ames Tribune reponded to an email request for a copy of the paper:

We are now getting an email request every minute. Ron Paul is the talk of Iowa this week and here in Ames. The tents are up at the Iowa State University facility along with traffic control fences, etc. Media trucks are starting to arrive this morning. DC

I you'd like a copy, you can email circulation@amestrib.com and request one. It is $2.00 per paper and you should include your address, and a phone number where they can contact you and they will send the papers and follow up for payment.

Ron Paul owns YouTube

Jeff Jarvis does an informal survey.  Thanks, Jeff!

Jesse Benton points out that Ron Paul's YouTube channel subscribers topped 25,000 yesterday.

And today, Ron Paul's 39 official Ron Paul channel videos broke 3 million cumulative views. That's not counting the views of the 43,500 unofficial videos Jeff found.  The Ron Paul @GoogleTalks video, currently at over 180,000 views, is also not an official channel video. (chart below)

I'm posting Obama's views here for comparison because he's the only candidate from either party that's anywhere near Ron's class.

Another Ron Paul Revolution Candidate

According to a Louisiana based Ron Paul supporter Brent W. Sanders of the Libertarain Party of Louisiana , "T. Lee Horne, III is a candidate for governor in Louisiana, and has publicly endorsed Ron Paul and attends Ron Paul meet-ups. He currently places 2nd in the polls."

This video was created by Lil' Nuke, a 17 year old kid that attends T. Lee Horne, III's church.

Update:  Brent himself is also a Ron Paul candidate for U.S. Congressional District 5 in Louisiana 2008!

Ron Paul quick hits

Ron Paul as Sanjaya?

Poor Pajamas.  You can flip through the weeks on their dropdown menu and see why they're so demoralized.

A major local paper does a great piece on the Lincoln Ron Paul MeetUp. The proprietor of RedStateEclectic is mentioned.

In less than one week the Paul Campaign has added an additional 10,000 volunteers, going from 20,000 to 30,000 registered volunteers.

The unofficial Ron Paul 2008 Campaign Song by the Violets.

A progressive New Hampshire blog thinks Ron Paul could win the NH primary.

The Ron Paul Factor?

According to this blogger (original article), the 2007 National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA) Grassroots Presidential Endorsement Convention was unable to agree on a candidate to endorse yesterday.  Perhaps the results of their straw poll gives a clue as to why?

A “straw poll” was conducted by secret ballot:

Fred Thompson 33%
Mitt Romney 15%
Ron Paul 14%
Duncan Hunter 11%
Tom Tancredo 11%
John Cox 6%
Newt Gingrich 3%
Mike Huckabee 3%
Rudy Giuliani 2%
Sam Brownback 2%

This was at a convention keynoted by Tom Delay.

Ron Paul wins ABC poll

OK, let's have a last look at the ABC poll:

Abcpoll5

As for the Drudge poll, it was spammed by Little Green Snotballs and Drudge took it down long ago.

l

Drudge poll weirdness; Ron Paul still winning updated

3:21 Eastern Update:  I've been told the Drudge poll only uses a cookie that can be deleted instead of IP filters, so I'm not going to watch it anymore.  Brownback went up by 10,000 votes in 2 hours, while his ABC numbers (IP filtering) still look like this:

Abcpoll4

Ron Paul still winning massively, but look at this:

Drudgepoll3

Suddenly Brownback surges by 4,000 votes!  I wonder why those people don't vote in ABC's poll?

Ten minutes later Brownback surges again!  Is this a joke?

Ron Paul Dominates after debate polls

OK, it's been an hour. Let's see how the polls are doing.

ABC poll:

Abcpoll2

Drudge poll:

Wow, Giuliani has surged to almost half as many votes as Ron Paul.

Drudgepoll2

And, just for some extra fun, the Pajama poll:

Last week, the MSM in Pajamas wrote "Ron Paul’s eager Internet devotees won week 27 on the Republican side for their candidate."  They'll have to come up with something catchier when he wins this week.

Here.

And, here's a nice clip of Ron Paul answering a question on Iraq, while Romney tries to interrupt.

Ron Paul surges past Obama

I've been waiting for this to happen. It was inevitable, but it is still encouraging.  Sometime yesterday or today, Ron Paul became the leader in the only YouTube statistic he had yet to lead - most  views of any candidate, not just Republicans.  He has long dominated Republicans on YouTube, but Obama still led in total views, mainly because he started first.  Well, the turtle just passed the hare.

Ron Paul Pittsburgh Rally After Party

We just drove back to central New York from Pittsburgh, so I'm going to get some sleep and then put up an album of pictures, but I thought I'd post this one first.  Here Ron had just been given a t-shirt by the Pittsburgh MeetUps that they had all signed.  You'd think he'd just say thanks and take it with him, but no.  He put it on immediately over his dress shirt and tie.

I have no idea how many people were at the after party, but it was hundreds and they were loud!  RP and his family were greeted with deafening chants and cheers when they arrived.

Ron Paul speaking in Pittsburgh

Since Ron is from Pittsburgh, his family is here. He just introduced Carol, his wife, his oldest son and his four brothers and their families.

Country is ready for some changes. Cheers. Internet is helpful. Laughter. Internet is the great equalizer and we need to use it!

Huge applause lines:

Iraq: Come home now!

2nd Amendment: Government can't protect us.  We need to protect ourselves.

IRS: Abolish it!  Replace it with nothing!  Cut spending!

Go back to the constitution and rule of law.

Bridge disaster Government can't build bridges. They're over in Iraq, bombing their bridges and rebuilding them. Why can't we just build our own bridges with that money?

Abolish Federal Reserve:  Huge standing ovation.

They call us radical?  The radicals are in charge!  We need to get rid of them. (Standing O)

50 billion in weapons to the Middle East? We're in the middle of a powder keg there. Last thing the region needs is more weapons. Who is making money off this deal?

Non-intervention means you don't go to Darfur either.

Think of what we achieve with peace vs. what we lost with war.

Something is coming alive in this country.  People are looking for the message of liberty.

Never, ever have a military draft. Head of the Selective Service said young people have to register not because the Feds don't know where they are, but for discipline. (Boos)

Rally ends with an invocation by Ron Paul's brother, David, which is rather subduing. People don't want to cheer and clap after a prayer.

Live Stream of Pittsburgh Ron Paul Rally

Jeff Frazee, who was with Students for Ron Paul before the RP campaign hired him, is telling me that he will be live streaming the rally and Ron Paul speech at justin.tv. The stream should go live about 8 PM Eastern, although Jeff says to just hang in there if he's a little late. He's also doing a brief speech before Ron Paul rocks the house.

Wow, there are a LOT of people here from Ohio!  Or maybe it just seems that way because I'm surrounded by them.  They all have Ohio Supports Ron Paul signs.

Later: It's ten to eight and this room is packed.  They're removing a divider at the back to make more room.  Woot!

The rally hasn't even started and people are yelling and chanting.  Lots of sign waving!

The  Ron Paul 2008 band?  Well, apparently!

***
The live cam is backstage with Ron Paul, live now.

*****

Jeff is giving his speech with a camera on his head. I have justin.tv up on my laptop while watching the rally. It's like two rallies in one!

Lew Moore up.  Crowd yelling Leeeeew!

Live-blogging the Pittsburgh Ron Paul Rally

I'm set up here at the Four Points Sheraton, site of the Welcome Home Ron Paul Pittsburgh Rally. It's not quite a quarter after seven (rally starts at eight) and I estimate that this room, which is set up for 700 is about a quarter full already. Many more Ron Paul supporters are still meeting and greeting outside in the halls. This is going to be great!
