Abu Ghraib Torture Photos

  • Ag15
The photos America doesn't want seen MORE photographs have been leaked of Iraqi citizens tortured by US soldiers at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison on the outskirts of Baghdad. Tonight the SBS Dateline program plans to broadcast about 60 previously unpublished photographs that the US Government has been fighting to keep secret in a court case with the American Civil Liberties Union. Although a US judge last year granted the union access to the photographs following a freedom-of-information request, the US Administration has appealed against the decision on the grounds their release would fuel anti-American sentiment. Some of the photos are similar to those published in 2004, others are different. They include photographs of six corpses, although the circumstances of their deaths are not clear. There are also pictures of what appear to be burns and wounds from shotgun pellets. The executive producer of Dateline, Mike Carey, said he was showing the pictures leaked to his program because it was important people understood what had happened at Abu Ghraib. Seven US guards were jailed following publication of the first batch of Abu Ghraib photographs in April 2004. Mr Carey said he could not explain why the photographs had not yet been published, as he thought it was likely that some journalists had them. "It think it's strange, maybe they think its more of the same."

RE: A Boost In The Polls For Ron Paul?

This guy makes some interesting points about why Ron Paul's national polls aren't reflecting his obvious popularity.  Ordinarily I'm leery of dismissing polling data.  Remember even Karl Rove claimed his "math" told him the polls were wrong about the 2006 Democratic landslide.

Rove claimed that the polls "add up to a Republican Senate and a Republican House."

"You may end up with a different math, but you're entitled to your math," Rove said. "I'm entitled to 'the' math."

Still, this makes sense.  Thoughts?

These "scientific" polls only measure name recognition and are close to meaningless at this point. Only a tiny sliver of Americans are even paying attention -- the Iowa Caucus is six months off.

RP's message is spreading quickly, and it's a winning message. That's the important thing.

His best point is that they are only polling republicans. I've seen enough people online who claim they are democrats and independents who have switched to support Ron, that I don't think these polls will pick up those people.

I also wonder about new registrants. Do they even call them?

Lastly, I noticed in at least one poll that the total number of democrats included were 500 whereas the number of republicans were 342.

So what did the missing 120 or so say?

Well, there are enough questions about methodology of these early polls to cast doubt on their accuracy. It'll be interesting to see how they change as the primaries get closer. With RP breaking every internet record there is, I can't believe it means nothing, which is what the current polls indicate.

Hey, Buckwheat, they're still insulting you over at that neocon warmonger blog, Moonbattery.
