Abu Ghraib Torture Photos

  • Ag15
The photos America doesn't want seen MORE photographs have been leaked of Iraqi citizens tortured by US soldiers at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison on the outskirts of Baghdad. Tonight the SBS Dateline program plans to broadcast about 60 previously unpublished photographs that the US Government has been fighting to keep secret in a court case with the American Civil Liberties Union. Although a US judge last year granted the union access to the photographs following a freedom-of-information request, the US Administration has appealed against the decision on the grounds their release would fuel anti-American sentiment. Some of the photos are similar to those published in 2004, others are different. They include photographs of six corpses, although the circumstances of their deaths are not clear. There are also pictures of what appear to be burns and wounds from shotgun pellets. The executive producer of Dateline, Mike Carey, said he was showing the pictures leaked to his program because it was important people understood what had happened at Abu Ghraib. Seven US guards were jailed following publication of the first batch of Abu Ghraib photographs in April 2004. Mr Carey said he could not explain why the photographs had not yet been published, as he thought it was likely that some journalists had them. "It think it's strange, maybe they think its more of the same."

Pictures of Mass Destruction:

I'll let zeynep's excellent rant about this picture suffice:

Mosquebootsfallujah

Somebody please tell Lt. Brandon Turner that he's insane, that the Pentagon is insane, whoever is allowing the marines or any American soldiers "rest" on that "plush red carpet" with their shoes, uniforms and machines guns is insane. Does anyone understand anything about religious feelings in general or about Islam in particular? Have they spent even half a day watching a documentary or two about Islam and noticed that people carefully and respectfully take their shoes off before entering a mosque, where they will kneel and put their head on that carpet? (Those "plush red carpets", by the way, are prayer rugs, or"sajjade." And you don't step on them with your combat boots, especially inside a mosque, and smile for the cameras unless you really want to fight to the death with up to a billion people.)

Seriously, this is either the most arrogant, incompetent, ignorant occupation, ever, or the most clever, insidious, skillful effort towards bringing about an apocalyptic world war. Are they asleep at the awheel, drowning under their own ignorance, or simply want to end life on earth as we know it?

People who are willing to kill someone just because they happened to have stepped on their prayer rug are just about crazy enough to blow themselves up or maybe kill people that disagree with them.

Did you hear that Shosei Koda was beheaded on a big American flag?

Have you condemned his beheading lately?

As zeynep points out in a different posting, the war is mainly being run by PR companies. Hence renaming the Fallujah operation with an Arabic name is not for the benefit of Arabic-speaking people. The grunts in the picture are not running the war: they're just the extras. I wouldn't waste any anger on them. Who made sure they never got any training in Arabic language, history or culture before they went over there? They're mostly kids who think fighting a war is the same as playing a video game: That was fun! Let's do it again! Coupla thousand years ago, a young man given a kangaroo trial and a public execution said "Father, forgive them, because they don't know what they are doing." They probably only signed up for the military so they could get out of their dead-end hometown.

There is a real feeling of helplessness!!!
Power, weapons, media - all in the hands of 'ignorance + arrogance'.

Even democracy seems useless!
I begin to feel we need another system.
DEMOCRACY IS UNFAIR!!!!
US is being ruled by a man who was not wanted by half the people.

Get used to disappointment.

I need to get used to living with ignorant, arrogant and uneducated people.
I need to get used to cultures being wiped out.
I need to get used to 'evil' being the dominating force at the moment.
I need to get used to mass graves in Fallujah.
I need to get used to the media hiding the truth and not telling us about these mass graves.
I need to get used to hearing - how bad it waS AND HOW GOOD IT IS NOW.
I need to get used to deformed children as a result of wars.
But my own GOOD SENSE prevents me to.
I shall NEVER get used to it!!!!!
Better be disappointed than SATISFIED!!!!

The news has reported many of the mass graves of all the Iraqis murdered by Saddam.

I need to get used to 'the news' - meant for the ignorant, the uneducated.

But I can't.
I want 'the news', which is not from 'corporate' and 'government' sycophants, tell us what is and has really happened in Fallujah - and the 100, 000 dead and many many more now - with this genocide there!!

If this was done by Sadam we would here of it in great detail with a lot of spice - on and on and on!!!!

Using the word genocide to describe the military action in Fallujah really just demeans the genocide that is occuring in the Sudan. According to the US Committee for Refugees, around 2 million Sudanese people have been killed and 4 to 5 million internally displaced since 1983.

Directed military action has only occured in Fallujah for the past few days. Don't try to insult the forum readers' intelligence by suggesting that genocide has been perpetrated in Fallujah in the past week. More accurately, there are many civilian victims of the conflict between the military and the insurgents in Fallujah.

You have been insulting our intelligence for a long time now with your comments.

So, why are you in Iraq and not Sudan??

I am not the US government, so no need to ask why "I" am in Iraq, not Sudan.

Obviously, the administration of the US has considered it, in the best interest of the US, for the US military to be in Iraq. The US military, under mandate by the administration has overthrown Saddam Hussein. The US military is now in the process of securing, along with the interim Iraqi government, the prospects of an election, for and by Iraqis, in the new year.

There you again, insulting the intelligence of posters here!!!!!!!

This whole blog site is in insult to everyone's intelligence. Get with it, man!

This blog is understood by the intelligent and those who don't have intelligence - of course it goes over their head and they feel insulted.

This is a good scale here:
Feel insulted by this blog - no intelligence.

WOW!!!
Tex is doing more than giving us information , he is weeding out the non intelligent people!!
